FAQs on Nomination & Selection Process
- How many times can I nominate my English teacher?
You can nominate as many times as you wish – there is no limit to the number of nominations an English teacher can receive. However, do remember that your principal will need to endorse the teacher before he or she will be considered for the Award. - How many teachers can my principal endorse for consideration for the Award?
Your principal may endorse only one teacher for consideration for the Award. - What happens if my English teacher resigns or stops teaching before the winners are selected?
If your English teacher resigns or stops teaching before we select the winners, he or she will no longer be eligible for the Award. - What are judges looking for in an English teacher?
The judges are looking for teachers who:- are passionate about making English interesting and relevant to their students
- use innovative methods to engage their students and help them learn English better
- are lifelong learners and role models in their use of English
- What is the nomination and selection process like?
- Step 1: Students, their parents and teachers fill up a Nomination Form (687KB, PDF), briefly describing why they think their nominated teacher deserves the Award
- Step 2: Submit Nomination Forms to the nominee’s principal by 21 March 2012. Principals will then endorse the nominations by using the Endorsement Form (695KB, PDF) - schools only need to submit 1 Endorsement Form for their nominee.

Singapore 449282 - Step 4: English Language Master Teachers from the Ministry of Education and a representative from the Speak Good English Movement carry out the first selection process.
- Step 5: Judges visit the shortlisted teachers to observe them during their lessons in July/August 2012.
- Step 6: Teachers on the final shortlist are interviewed by the judges in October 2012.
- Who are the judges?
Judges for the Award include representatives from The Straits Times, the Speak Good English Movement, British Council and English Language Master Teachers from the Ministry of Education. - How many winners will you select?
We will select up to 10 winners for the Award. - When will winners be announced?

- What is the Inspiring Teacher of English Award?
The Inspiring Teacher of English Award is the first national award for teachers of English in Singapore schools. The annual Award salutes these teachers for their ability and determination to inspire! - Why was the Inspiring Teacher of English Award started?The Award was started to acknowledge teachers who have been instrumental in igniting a love for the English language in their students and are effective in helping their students speak and write better. The Award also sets out to have teachers share their teaching practices with their fellow teachers.Said Mr Goh Eck Kheng, Chairman of the Speak Good English Movement Committee: “Schools form one of the front lines for improving the standard of English in Singapore, and good teachers of the language are key if we are to see this improvement happen. The Inspiring Teacher of English Award focuses attention on the important role of English Language, Literature and General Paper teachers, and we hope that the recognition of their importance by way of this award will encourage and motivate them.”
- Who are the organisers of the Inspiring Teacher of English Award?
The award is jointly presented by The Straits Times and the Speak Good English Movement, with the support of the Ministry of Education.
